The verb tener means to have. The ending for tener is based on the personal pronoun that precedes it. The e changes to ie in all forms except nosotros, vosotros, and the yo form, which ends in -go.

Yo tengo tres gatitos.
     I have three kittens.

Tú tienes una bicicleta.
     You have a bike.

Él tiene un coche.
     He has a car.

Ella tiene un perro.
     She has a dog.

Usted tiene asma.
     You have asthma. (formal)

Nosotros tenemos flores.
     We have flowers.

Vosotros tenéis mucha tarea.
     You all have lots of homework. (familiar -
     only used in Spain)

Ellos tienen chocolatinas.
     They have chocolate bars. (males)

Ellas tienen muchos juguetes.
     They have lots of toys. (females)

Ustedes tienen poco tiempo.
     You all have a little bit of time. (formal)
